Hello friend,
This is the last time I’ll be popping into your inbox this year.
Wrap-up season is here: the last-minute work tasks; the pressies; my frozen body in an old Zara blarf before venturing out into -6° Edinburgh.
And in true freelancer tradition, it’s also time to wrap up the year with a review of the wins and not-so-wins of 2022, ready for world domination in 2023.
It feels like an extra part-time job at this time of year, doesn’t it? Who has time to think about goals?
But if you can squeeze in a couple of hours to yourself, armed with some mince pies, mulled cider and a fresh Moleskine, future you will thank you.
Got goals for 2023? Get a head start
As I write this, I’m half-watching Chris Hemsworth attempt a stress-busting tight-rope challenge on top of a Sydney skyscraper (Limitless on Disney+, you’re welcome).
With the help of some longevity gurus, Chris is testing out new healthy habits that will help prevent disease in later life and allow him to swing his hammer well into his 90s (that’s a Thor joke, before you wonder).
It’s a ready-made list of new year's resolutions.
(If you want some tips on staying healthy as a busy freelancer, check out this episode with Sally Duffin).
Do you set new habits in the new year?
Whether it’s a new exercise routine or a business-related goal, consider getting ahead of the game by starting now.
People who start working on new habits before the new year are more likely to stick at them and get better results than if they wait until the 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) of Jan.
If you do this, you’re showing yourself you’re an action-taker. Plus you’ll have done the planning so you can get on with implementation in the new year instead of trying to set new goals when you’re scrabbling around trying to remember your email logins.
So, what’s on your plan for next year? Do share!
Ep. 88: 2022 in review
The latest episode of 15 Minute Freelancer is the last one of the year, so of course it’s everyone’s favourite format: the annual review.
I share three things that I’m pretty chuffed with and three things that are firmly in the “lessons learned” column.
You'll also hear how I'm setting goals for 2023 and how my business will have to change as a result 😬
If you haven’t already got other-people’s-goals fatigue, give it a listen.
What I will say is that if you’re reading/listening to other people sharing their Ws, remember they’re only giving you part of the story. I’m not saying they’re not telling the truth, but they’re choosing what to tell you. And you can choose how you feel about that. Beware of the ole comparisonitis!
That’s why I’ve shared some of the messy bits too.

Before I go, a quick question.
If you’ve listened to the episode and somehow made it back to this email, you’ll pick up that I’m changing things up for the podcast in 2023. I’d love to get some feedback! Do you prefer interview or solo episodes? Would you prefer fortnightly/monthly rolling episodes or a season of weekly episodes and then a break?
As always, thank you so much for lending me your ears (and eyes) this year. I hope you’ve found these episodes to be as useful/interesting/entertaining as I’ve had fun making them.
Until next year, merry Christmas, happy new year, and happy freelancing!
Louise xx
