Hello friends,
Some smart person on the internet once said, “if you want something to exist in the world, sometimes you have to create it yourself.”
Well, that’s exactly what Nikki Simpson did when she founded the International Magazine Centre – and she's doing it again with the upcoming Magazine Street conference on 29 September.
She saw a gap in the market for something she’d love to exist, and set about making it happen.
(With the help of 180m of bunting and more than 1500 personalised emails 😅)
On today’s episode of 15 Minute Freelancer, we go behind the scenes to find out how Nikki is keeping all the plates spinning as the event draws nearer, and why she thinks freelancers should consider organising their own events to raise their profile and solidify connections with like-minded people.

➡️ 15 Minute Action: We hear lots about how *attending* events can be a great way to meet new clients and collaborators (and Nikki has great tips for that too), but what about taking the initiative and running your own? 😬
What dream event would you love to have on your 2023 calendar?!
Doesn’t have to be a full-on conference. Maybe you could put yourself forward to speak at an event, or volunteer to help with the social media or logistics? Maybe you could get a few friends together for a local meet-up, or arrange a virtual workshop? Think about what you’d be excited to see on your Google calendar next year, and start making it happen…
(And if you’re heading to Magazine Street on 29 September, come and say hi – I’ll be recording an episode while I’m there, and looking for willing participants!)
Until next time, happy freelancing!
Louise xx
