Happy Friday!
Magnum or Twister? Jurassic World or Elvis? Monthly or weekly newsletter? 😅
Last week, after spending ages perched on the fence of indecision, I hit send on this monthly newsletter. Then promptly wondered if it should be weekly.
When we’re making business decisions, we’re always balancing what’s most useful for the people we want to help, with what makes sense for us.
I figured a monthly round-up of podcast episodes with a sprinkling of added extras would give listeners an easy way to catch up on any eps they missed. Lots of people say they like to binge-listen. And creating a monthly missive fits nicely with my workplans.
Except… The whole point in the “15 Minute” thing is to make these tips easy to digest.
Four episodes and four 15 minute actions is rather a lot of freelancing sausagmeat to stuff into one lil email. Feels like a surefire way to end up festering in inboxes like a well-intentioned-but-forgotten lettuce at the back of the fridge.
And not exactly bite-size.
I polled my pals on LinkedIn and about 60% said they’d prefer weekly. So today I’m experimenting with the weekly format.
What do you think? Hit reply and let me know.
(And take this as a wee reminder that it’s fine to change your mind if you start something and want to go in a different direction.)
Today’s episode: 67. Making business fun with Kirsty Waite!
Do you feel like you're still following the corporate rules even though you're the boss now? I do. After being a civil servant for 10 years and worrying that if I misspoke in a public meeting it might end up in the Daily Mail, I’m still getting used to being myself.
In this episode, Kirsty Waite joins me to share her tips for unlearning the 9-5 and making business fun.
Being yourself in business takes a bit of practice, but giving ourselves permission to have some fun while we work can make us happier, open up new opportunities and help us attract our ideal clients.

🧠 Insight: You get to decide how you run your business. Make it fun! If it’s not, you may as well go back to working to someone else’s rules. You can enjoy your work/day and still deliver an outstanding service to clients. In fact, maybe the two go together?
➡️ 15 Minute Action: Are you having fun while your build your business? Where could you add in more YOU? How can you delight your clients with fun, creative surprises? Jot down some ideas. (Can be as simple as a bit of personality in your email footer or out of office message, or a thank you video or gift you send to clients.)

To me, the best part about working for yourself is getting to choose what projects you work on, how you put together your services, and how and when you sit down at your desk and get it all done. But that freedom takes a bit of effort to achieve.
At the end of the above convo, Kirsty and I chatted about the practical steps needed to achieve freedom in your business. Couldn’t squeeze it into the 15 min episode, but Kirsty’s advice is pure gold, so you lovely Substack readers can listen to the unedited clip here:
Again, let me know if you’re on the weekly or monthly side of the fence.
Until next time, enjoy those Magnums, and give yourself permission to break some rules!
